Top Ten: Home Edition

Top Ten Room/Home Accessories and tips to creating a happy place

I love buying cute little accessories for my room and the thought of being able to buy them for more than one room is one of the main reasons why I'm so excited to move out. Making a space your own is a very important part of life, whether it be your bedroom in your families home or your own home or even your little desk at work, making it your own space by decorating or accessorising it with your own personal touch can make you feel more comfortable in a space and gives you a sense of ownership. So this is my top ten favourite accessories that I have in my room, maybe they'll give you some inspiration to decorate or redecorate your own spaces.

1. Buy lots of fairy lights, or just one set depending on your personal preference. You can get so many different types of fairy lights now and in multiple colours, you can get plain little bulbs or ones with cute little covers. I brought the ones pictured from Primark for just £4 and they had a bunch of other designs ranging from £2.50 to about £8. I advise that you get the battery powered ones rather than ones you have to plug in to a mains socket as it gives you more of a choice as to where to hang them.

2. Buy something to store your jewellery in. This could be a jewellery box, a necklace tree (this probably isn't the 'professional' word but that's what I call it, I mean it does look like a tree) or a ring holder/bowl. It helps keep everything organised and keeps the chains from doing that knotting thing the devil created. I got a super cute glass heart shaped ring holder from this shop called Tiger that is popping up all over the UK now, but I first discovered it when I went to Iceland several years ago, they have lots of cute things you didn't know you needed and probably don't actually need but you want, plus all the stuff is super cheap, I actually don't think there's anything in the store that's more than £20. (they don't actually have an online store where you can buy things but you can view some of their products here x)

3 and 4. Display photographs in your room. I love putting photos up in my room, it helps personalise a space and it also helps create a place to hold memories, when you're feeling a little down it can create some what of a portal to the good moments and memories that are held in those photographs, and this can instantly help perk you up. I brought a photo/note clip frame from aforementioned store Tiger for £3 I think, which I clipped a bunch of my favourite picture from the last year on. I also brought a couple of polaroid frames from the Urban Outfitter sale at the beginning of the year, which are super cute and are a really nice way of displaying your polaroids. If you don't have a polaroid camera, a) you should get one b) buy some normal photo frames and place your pictures from your favourite memories in them.

5. Organise you shelves or sides! Tidy sides and shelves can make a room look and feel instantly nicer!

6. Buy pretty duvet covers and MAKE YOUR BED! Just a simple and quick task of making your bed each day instantly makes your room look and feel tidier, it can also make you feel more organised and clear. Pretty bedspreads are the perfect way to make a space your own if for any reason you aren't allowed to decorate it how you would like. Buy a couple of bedspreads that you like, Primark has a really nice selection in all bed sizes for relatively cheap so you don't even need to splash out on one of Urban Outfitters billion pound ones, and your room will instantly feel like your own space, plus I truly believe it will make you bed feel 10 times comfier which could be an issue if you already struggle to drag yourselves out of bed in the mornings.

7. Boxes. Go to Ikea or somewhere and buy pretty boxes, whether they are to organise the mess under your bed or to separate makeup and electronics, boxes are the perfect thing to keep everything together and separate where necessary plus they are also super cheap. I brought a couple of nice ones from IKEA to organise my makeup and hair things from each other and to hold any craft items and I also use one as a memory box. The ones I got come in a variety of colours and patterns and start from as little as £2.50 [x]

8) Get something to listen to your music out loud on, give your poor little ears a rest. Whether it be a record player, a CD player or just a speaker to plug your phone in too. Listening to music out loud is a whole different experience than listening via headphones, not only does it also means you can hear when your parents are shouting you for dinner which is very important, it also means you can move around your room without having your phone shoved in to a pocket or your bra and you don't have to worry about that painful moment when your earphones get caught on something and they get ripped from your head.

9) Buy a snuggly blanket. Not only is this good in the winter as an extra layer on your bed, its also a good thing to take to friends houses or for when your friends come to your house for sleepovers, or to just snuggle up in on the sofa or in front of the fire. It doesn't have to be pretty or expensive as long as it's gonna keep you warm, its an investment piece.

10) This technically isn't a room accessory but I'm going to be honest and say I couldn't actually think of a tenth one so I'm cheating a little. Buy yourself an adult colouring book of your choice, they come in so many designs these days, I even brought a Harry Potter one the other day so i'm sure you'll find one you like, also invest in some decent colouring pens or pencils. I find these books super stress relieving and relaxing so personally I think it's a good idea to have one in your room.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks Top Ten, and if this gave you any inspiration to decorate your space, please have fun!
