What’s another night on Mars?
This past weekend I travelled up to Manchester for my first concert of the year and my first The Maine show ever, technically it was a Mayday Parade show with The Maine being one of the support acts but still. For once in my life I had the shortest travelling time of my friends thanks to Virgin Trains and their one and a half hour travel time from Milton Keynes to Manchester Piccadilly, so I was the last one of us to leave and the first one to arrive. The plan was for me to meet Aimee at the train station and for us to then go and find the coach station so we could welcome Vanessa to the north for the first time after her lovely 5 and a half hour coach journey up from London town, however it turned out the coach got in a little earlier so we just ended up meeting at Taco Bell instead. Once we’d fed ourselves some ‘Mexico comes to Manchester’ delights we had a quick wonder round the shops and then went and stocked up on wine and headed for the hotel.
Finally the moment we had came here for was about to happen, The Maine was about to play their set, so we all grabbed hands and ran in to the crowd till we had got as close as we could and we were ready to sing, dance and cry. Since the majority of the crowd were there for Mayday Parade we were some of the only people singing and dancing along which the other members of the crowd didn’t appreciate but John O’Callaghan (who is the most beautiful man in the whole wide world) did, he appreciated us losing out minds, holding hands the whole way through Another Night on Mars, and dancing like drunk Dad’s at a wedding. After their set we had a quick bathroom and drink break and then stayed by the bar to watch Mayday’s set, which was good since I only knew about 4 songs, 4 of their most emo songs, which is saying something. We left part was through their last song to go outside to meet The Maine. We didn’t have to wait long before Kennedy appeared, after a couple minutes of chatter the security guard tried to take him back inside since we were taking up the entire pavement, but Kennedy wasn’t having that and instead decided to take us across the road under this tunnel so we could hang out without getting in trouble. Gradually all the members of the band came out and we moved between them and had conversations and photos with them all. The Maine are genuinely not only the nicest people in the music industry that I’ve had the privilege of meeting but some of the nicest people I’ve met in my entire life. They were all so genuine and happy and wanted to make you happy and they made you feel so comfortable and at ease with them, they took the time to talk to everyone individually about everything from sushi to playing some shows in Spain. After hanging with them for a good hour and a half, we bid our farewells and headed to McDonalds to relieve our bladders and fill up on chicken selects before getting an Uber back to the hotel.
The next morning we ended up skipping the included breakfast at the hotel since it was so busy and ended up going to this cute little cafe called The Koffee Pot and getting ourselves a full english before heading to the train station to head back down south to hopefully better weather. Basically to sum this post up, I love The Maine, Manchester is rainy and I’m sad that this weekend is over.
