So today me and a couple of my friends decided we would take a trip to London to try and meet HALSEY since it's the only day we could all do while she's still in London. I knew even if we didn't get to see her it would still be a good day and worth the 7am wake up call because I was getting to spend time with some lovely friends, one whom I haven't seen since November and used to see at least once a week when I was still at uni.
Halsey for those who don't know is an (extremely cute) American recording artist who is signed to Capitol Records and Astralwerks, currently she doesn't have a UK label and therefore doesn't have any music released here. This is a lie, she did release her first single Ghost here but her EP 'Room 93' hasn't been released which contains the reformed, if that's the correct term, version of Ghost and four other awesome tracks including my favourite Empty Gold, that you can listen to here.
Who am I kidding all of the songs are my favourite. Whilst you’re on her YouTube page because you better be clicking that link, please make sure you watch the videos she made to go with each song, she really wanted this EP to not only be a audio experience but also a visual one. I’m not going to go into the reasons and themes and metaphors she is trying to portray because I know I wouldn’t be able to do it justice, so you can either just watch for yourself and create your own thoughts or you can look up some interviews or stalk back on her twitter if you want to learn more. Also go watch her VEVO DSCVR interview and performance of Hurricane, she really has a way with words and it's super interesting to listen to and her performance is spotless!
Any way back to my day, being the typical white girls we are we met at Starbucks and of course Georgia was late like always, we sat in there for a while drinking coffee and eating donuts like we were stereotypical cartoon police officers or something and then decided to go for a wander round. After a quick stop at maccas and a sneaky manager Twitter stalk we headed over to Soho, got told we looked like we were into fashion as a bribe to try and get us to go to some popup shop we were not interested in, turns out the lady used the same line on every passerby and now I don't feel so special and I'm still trying to decide if I'm fashionable or not, we then got chatted up with an epic poem by some homeless dude that was just after our money for 'breakfast' at 3pm and who probably didn't really think we were pretty and then we proceeded to stand on a street corner by a sex shop in the red light district trying not to look like prostitutes! And then during a conversation about MySpace angles guess who appears? HALSEY! Who was literally the most adorable human I've ever met.
We ended up spending a good 20 plus minutes stood outside 'bone daddies' (great name for a restaurant tbh) talking to her about everything from wine and soy sauce to shoes and how she thought we all dressed better than her, which is a total lie, like seriously have you seen her she's literally outfit goals! She took photos with everyone who asked and made sure to make each conversation personal, she complimented everyone whether it was their shoes or freckles in Aimee's case. I watched her record at least ten videos for people's friends that couldn't be there and she made sure they weren't just generic 'hi it's HALSEY' videos, she listened to who they were for and made sure they were all individual and unique and that's what I think one of the greatest things about her is, is that she takes the time to listen to everyone and makes you feel like you matter and she cares and appreciates that you want to meet her and like her and her music.
I honestly cannot wait for her to finish up and release her debut album and then play some shows over here in the UK, I can assure you I will be at all of them, front and centre. So yeah thanks HALSEY for being a number one bae and such a lovely and genuine person, I hope we can see each other again soon (and possibly become bffs mainly so we can share shoes.)
I mean the day did end with me reading the bus timetable for Saturday and not Sunday and therefore having to wait at a bus stop for two hours and then witnessing an old man urinate in a carrier bag aboard a bus but you know I spent the day with cute friends and HALSEY so I can't really complain even if I am currently an icicle.
Oh and I also started my Memory Box that was on my 2015 Goals list :)
Until next time
