5 Seconds of Summer @ Heaven

With the impending release of their third album, Youngblood, on June 15th, I thought I would write a little post about their most recent London show that I attended as part of their 5SOS3 tour.

When the tour was announced at the beginning of March and I found out they were playing such a tiny venue two thoughts went through my mind, 1) shit I have to go, seeing them in such a small venue again would be a huge throwback and such a good time and 2) shit how the hell are we gonna score tickets. Through some miracle from god me and my pal Vanessa got our hands on two tickets and we were buzzed.

Just over a month later on April 5th we pulled our most extra outfits out of our wardrobes, applied plenty of glitter to our faces and headed on over to Heaven. Venue rules stated nobody could queue until 5pm on show day which was great for us because we are too old to stand too long but also wanted a good dancing spot in the crowd. So at 5pm we left our table at Starbucks (after applying just a little more glitter) and headed across the road to the already long line of girls and guys ready to party. Once inside we ran in to a bunch of old friends and suddenly it was 2014 again. The shows ‘support act’ was a DJ, aka music playing from a speaker, however they did play the Jonas Brothers so everything was forgiven even if I was confused and disappointed by the crowds lack of lyrical knowledge.

Finally the clock struck 9, (this is lie because of course they were late and it was probably more 9:15) the room lights dimmed and the intro to everyone’s favourite song She Looks So Perfect started to play and the room came alive.

The set was a solid mix of the bands older and more known songs with a solid chunk of new material mixed in. Personally I was so excited to finally hear Girls Talk Boys live and I was not disappointed in its grooviness.

The new songs went down really well with the crowd, my favourites were Youngblood, Lie To Me and Talk Fast. I genuinely almost listed ALL of the new songs they played that's how good they all are, and I'm super excited to hear them all when the album is released. I truly get the sense that they have put so much love and passion in to this new album and that makes me even more eager to hear it. I am also buzzed to be seeing them with my friends again on their Meet You There Tour at the O2 Academy Brixton in October. 5SOS has brought so many wonderful people in to my life over the years that the best part about going to their shows is seeing these people again and sharing such a fun experience with them.
